WEATHER Portland's weather is mild, with distinct seasons and a long growing season. Summers are usually warm with very little rain and temperatures in the 70s and 80s. Average annual rainfall: 36.3 inches (less than Atlanta, Houston and Seattle). Average high and low temperature (in Fahrenheit): January: 46/34; July: 80/57; April: 61/42; October: 64/45.
PARKS AND GARDENS
Portland is very green, with 10,510 acres of parks space. Portland's 5,000-acre Forest Park is the largest naturally forested urban park in the nation. The many specialty gardens include the International Rose Test Garden and Portland Japanese Garden, located near Washington Park and Old Town / Chinatown's Lan Su Classical Chinese Garden.
MAJOR NEWSPAPERS
The Oregonian is available throughout the state and Willamette Week, The Mercury and The Portland Tribune are free and available in Portland. The Portland Chinese Times and El Hispanic News are foreign-language newspapers that are also free and available in Portland.
