Head to this Northeast neighborhood and you’ll experience nationally touring concerts, big sporting events and convention meetings. Located just a few MAX stops east of downtown is the headquarters for the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers and the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks at the Moda Center. Check the schedule for games and big-time concerts. Down the road is the Oregon Convention Center — the largest convention center in the Pacific Northwest. A leading model for environmental sustainability, the center serves as a destination for meetings throughout the year.
If shopping is more your thing, head to the Lloyd Center Mall, with more than 130 stores, 35 restaurants, a movie theater and an ice-skating rink. (Infamous claim to fame: Tonya Harding practiced here.) Once America’s largest indoor shopping center, the center still draws countless shoppers for high-end retailers like Nordstrom and Macy’s. Up the street, be sure to stop at Broadway Books (1714 N.E. Broadway), a small but well-stocked independent bookseller.
