This new high-end spice & tea shop has a super-accessible location in the heart of downtown Portland—making it a fun, chic place to taste and sniff your way through the world, and buy a few small gifts while you're at it. Ivy Liniger's crimson-colored Old World boutique boasts all the sweet, savory, herby basics, plus funky-flavored sugars (from tangerine to espresso and habanero), a wall of aromatic loose-leaf teas, and lots of cooking and finishing salts from the four corners of the globe. But its’ secret weapon is a wall of spice blends the crew grinds fresh every week, from Thai Red Curry Blend to its coveted Backwoods Hickory Rub that will turn any meat into a grilling masterpiece. If you're new to the spice experience, you need not worry, the knowledgeable staff can lend you some pointers while inviting you to open the jars and smell the magnificent aromas. Check these off your shopping list: Black Truffle Sea Salt, dynamite herbes de Provence blend, and a Himalayan Cooking Plate. Open 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 12-6 p.m. Sunday.
