In this city we do malls a little differently. If you're downtown, a visit to Pioneer Place could turn into a full-day excursion. The indoor mall is four city blocks and four stories high, filled with premier shops, great food and a movie theater.
Just south of downtown in Tigard is Bridgeport Village. Its open-air layout, with brick and stone structures and gas lamp-style lights dotting the wide walkways, makes this mall feel more like a mini village. Come for the shopping but stay for the great selection of restaurants and entertainment. The movie theater here is the largest of its kind in the state with an IMAX playing the latest 3-D flicks.
Cascade Station, at the Portland International Airport, has unique shops such as IKEA and Carhartt.
Visit Washington Square Mall for its plethora of shops, including one of the largest Nordstrom department stores in the state.
If it's a deal you seek, look no further than the outlet malls that flank the city. Just south of Portland, the Woodburn Company Stores has high-end shops like J. Crew, Adidas, Nike, Coach, Kenneth Cole and many more. And east of the city, the Columbia Gorge Premium Outlets in Troutdale has favorites such as Eddie Bauer, Guess, Izod and Harry & David, just to name a few.
Portland is leading the way for independent designers and there are lots of stores that carry one-of-a-kind clothing. Find hip new threads from these local designers at Donna & Toots (1627 N.E. Alberta), Grasshopper, Souchi, Lena Medoyeff Studio (710 N.W. 23rd Avenue), Relish (1715 N.W. Lovejoy Street) and Seaplane (2226 N.W. Lovejoy Street). If you're looking for jewelry, Gilt has one of the best selections of vintage jewelry and locally-made designs. |
