A group of local distilleries are making handcrafted, distilled spirits available for the first time in Portland since prohibition. Housed in warehouses and industrial buildings in the southeast industrial district dubbed Distillery Row, independent distilleries have begun producing over 20 unique liquors. They make everything from vodkas and gins, rums and whiskeys, to more specialized spirits such as absinthe, aquavit and flavored liqueurs.
This fall, celebrate spirits at the sixth annual Great American Distillers Festival from October 22-23, 2011 at the Tiffany Center Emerald Ballroom. Events include food and spirit pairings, a mixology contest for bartenders, and a distillers Bloody Mary breakfast.
